Intertrol's - Home and Small Network Solution
The FilterPak is the software version of Intertrol's Internet filtering solutions for home and small network applications. It is perfectly suited for small networks, which may include schools and businesses, and works in conjunction with an end user's ISP. The FilterPak works with a list server and a small software program called a "thin-client". Upon installation of the filtering, this "thin-client" is placed on the end-user's computer, where it operates in the background of the system, much like a virus protection program. The "thin-client" requires no further administration or configuration and cannot be turned off or disabled except by the administrator of the account. The "thin-client" works in concert with the list server by forcing all URL requests to compare against the blocked site list before allowing or disallowing the end-user to view the site. Since this check is merely the comparison of strings of text, it takes a mere fraction of a second to complete. This methodology creates a distinct advantage for the customer by keeping all site updates on the servers instead of individual computers. The FilterPak gives the administrator of the account the ability to create distinct user rules, known as "Profiles," which can have different filtering levels for each user. For example, an administrator could limit customer service personnel from using HotJobs.com or Monster.com to look for jobs and post resumes, while still allowing access to these sites by the human resources department.
